Durban Poison replaced my anti-depressants. I have struggled with depression since I was a kid and have never found relief like I do with Durban Poison. The smell is heavenly and the buds are always covered in trichomes. The high is all in your head, seriously like a little party inside your brain. I've added a trip to Durban, South Africa onto my bucket list because of this strain, it must be as close to heaven as humanly possible.
What a wonderful strain. I wanted to try a pure sativa, and Durban Poison seemed like the prototype of a sativa. I was worried about getting anxiety initially, but that was the complete opposite of how I felt after a few minutes. It was like the first time you have coffee after quitting caffeine for a year. Energized, euphoric, creative, but not quite jittery. It's a 5/5 strain.

A good choice for leaving your house. If you have stuff to do its a good energenic boost.
Derban Poison is a very good strain, however this only applies if you have a drink with you as it gives you severe dry-mouth , but gave me a very talkative giggly high also. Overall a very good strain!

Durban Poison as mentioned comes from the area of the port city of Durban in South Africa, as do I, the reviewer. (Look up my user name Thegweni.) It is reported that Durban Poison was smoked by Zulu armies before battle and with the aid of the herb they won the Battle of Isandlwana against the British in Zululand in 1879. This was despite the British having state of the art weaponry for the time.
Maybe the whole story was propaganda put out by the Brits to explain the loss of the battle. Many African tribes do eat and smoke the herb and British Soldiers are still not officially using pot as a performance enhancer.
So - if you want to vanquish an army in your mind - smoke Durban Poison.
As a man who has smoked cannabis for 43 years, I have been lucky enough to try many ,many different strains of marijuana.
Durban Poison will always be in my quiver of medicines, as the effects are uplifting, clear headed, yet a feeling of being carefree envelopes the user.
The smell of Durban Poison is unique in the cannabis world...an overwhelming deep fruitiness smell of the buds is a treat for the nose, and the stickiness of a well grown plant will make it hard to grind, as it will gum up the works.
Pass that joint around, and have some fun. Like that old bumper sticker said:
"Ass, Gas, or Grass....Nobody Rides for Free"
Durban Poison is one of those strains that really can't be compared to any other. It is a pure, full-tilt sativa with all of the lovelies that come with that designation. If you're feeling stressed, anxious or depressed, this will kick you right out of it. If you're prone to extreme anxiety, use caution and start small. Sometimes this strain can make anxiety worse if you smoke too much.

Energized, focused high that feels, for lack of a better term, speedy. Thoughts come quickly, there's a tendency to fidget and find yourself wanting to move around. This would be great for a day of cleaning / chores or even board games with friends.
Other upside is the THCV in this strain - no munchies! It suppresses the appetite, which might be an issue for some people.
Downside is the edginess. It's not a happy, carefree high. It can cross over into anxiety and irritability. Definitely a strain whose experience is linked to your state of mind. Returning to and maintaining a positive mindset softens the edge.
It feels like a strain made for buckling down and getting to work. It seems to break the cycle of overthinking but it puts you in the mindset of a workaholic parent who neglects their children. Or Gordon Ramsey, as my friend pointed out.
