King Louis XIII

STRAIN HIGHLIGHTS

King Louis XIII might be most famous for making wigs on men de rigeur for the French aristocracy, but in Southern California the name will bring to mind a popular indica-dominant strain. This strain announces itself as many people did in the 1600s: by its smell. The difference is this monarch’s odor is one that’s meant to be enjoyed; its dense nugs have an overwhelmingly piney smell with an earthy musk that will have you thinking of your last forest adventure. Bred in part from OG Kush, Louis XIII has a very similar spicy kush aroma. Good for insomnia, this strain often tests at over 20% THC.

I suffer from central sleep apnea, insomnia and when I can actually hit REM cycle, severe nightmares. I served one year in Iraq as a medic attached to an infantry unit - I've seen and done some shit. As a result, I basically have every hindrance to sleep possible. King Louis XIII filled the gap in my long list of remedies. I did everything else to treat my sleep - got a CPAP for my apnea, started taking antipsychotics to fall asleep, and a heart medicine that also nullifies nightmares. (The VA, though cumbersome, can pull through if you give it enough time) But I still couldn't fall asleep and stay asleep. King Louis XIII fixed that. The key to King Louis XIII's effectiveness is two fold: the body high and the mental sleepiness. It has this strange effect of essentially making your body and brain feel lazy. So, you don't fidget in your sleep and when you hit REM cycle, you stay there. It's better than all other indicas I've tried for sleeping (about three of them). I've tried it in both flower and concentrate - both work as well.

Migraine pain 5-6; nausea 5 when I medicated round 2300 or so. 5 min to start working. Pain/nausea gone. NO ANXIETY/PARANOIA (a must). Head buzz heavy without being overwhelming. Body high dang near perfect. This one's a sleeper for sure; do not recommend for daytime use. Super hot stoner sex with my hubby before passing out. Highly recommend for evening/nighttime use, yay! :-)

I have smoked some of the greats, have grown some of the greats as well. When I saw this on the dispensary menu in Arizona, I scratched my head, (understand that as a Norcal Guy) I just didn't think they had it in them to pull it off here...more on that later in my upcoming piece "Combing Cowboy Country for Chronic…" I asked hey is this indoor? outdoor, greenhouse? and was greeted with an IDK...until through the door came Jane at Monarch, Scottsdale, calmly saying it's indoor and it's good. So I promptly said I'll take an eighth. The product I got was the first time it had matched what I had smoked in Cali, and the ride was "perfect" the nose, burn, ash, buzz, everything was on the money...one of the finest...if you have the nuts to call it Louis XIII be prepared to deliver...and damn if it didn't. What a great experience, enough so, that its changing the tempo of my piece, which will now have to wait a few more days...because I did find "Chronic in Cowboy Country", I just had to wade through a lotta horse shit to find it... Props.
